Camp Salmen Lodge
In addition to the natural scenic beauty of Bayou Liberty, we are fortunate to have many homes and other structures on the bayou which are arguably some of the oldest remaining structures built on the Northshore. Among these picturesque historic buildings is the Camp Salmen Lodge, also known as the “Old Trading Post”.
Recently the Louisiana Trust for Historic Preservation (LTHP) placed the Camp Salmen Lodge on their 2020 list of Louisiana’s most endangered places. The Friends of Camp Salmen are hopeful the LTHP designation will assist them in securing funding allocated toward restoring and rehabilitating the Lodge.
In 2001 Camp Salmen was purchased by the Trust for Public Lands on behalf of St. Tammany Parish. The resultant Camp Salmen Nature Park and its Old Trading Post remain treasured public assets for all residents and visitors to Bayou Liberty.
