UPDATE DECEMBER 30, 2021

Liberty Bluff:

At its December 13th meeting, we petitioned Slidell’s Planning & Zoning Commission to reject the annexation of the proposed Liberty Bluff property. Despite the flawed assessment by their planning staff, the commissioners overwhelmingly agreed with BLA and the nearby community’s position that the property should neither be annexed nor rezoned for high-density development.

The developer had the option of petitioning the Slidell City Council to proceed with the annexation of the property. The next Council meeting is scheduled for January 6, 2022. Ostensibly, because of the widespread opposition, we learned that the developer elected not to pursue his request with the city. Therefore, the proposed Liberty Bluff petitions will not be heard at the January 6th meeting nor any time in the foreseeable future.

Assuredly, we continue to monitor this concern at all levels of government. We wish to thank Mayor Greg Cromer who attended and spoke eloquently opposing both the annexation and the dense rezoning of the land.

The Slidell City Council voted to extend the moratorium on large scale subdivision developments into 2023: Thus, allowing the City’s comprehensive plan to be completed.

Honeybee:

Jeff Schoen for his client, D. R. Horton, filed an appeal with the St. Tammany Parish Council on the decision to deny rezoning for the Honeybee Development.  The appeal should be heard at the February 3, 2022, Parish Council Meeting. We will coordinate our opposition with the Lacombe CCA and other groups following the New Year’s Day Festivities.

Camp Salmen Nature Park:

Camp Salmen reopened in mid-December following necessary repairs and storm debris removal. The damage and debris resulted from Hurricane Ida. The park is now open 7-days/week from 7:30 AM until 4:30 PM.
