UPDATE ON THE HONEYBEE DEVELOPMENT
As anticipated, the developers, through their attorney, requested and received a two-month extension until the December 2021 Planning & Zoning meeting. That scheduled meeting occurs on December 7, 2021, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers on Koop Drive.
The developers requested this additional delay, purportedly to provide Zoning Staff with the complete traffic and hydrology studies, both financed by Honeybee. Our sources indicate that the finalized hydrology report was previously submitted to Zoning Staff on Friday, August 27, prior to Hurricane Ida’s landfall. The developers maintain that the traffic reports are "nearing completion", but they wish to allow the zoning staff and the commissioners sufficient time to analyze its conclusions.
These delaying strategies serve as an operative tactic which seeks to erode public opposition to these hyper-dense developments. In the interim, the developer’s agents relentlessly interact with Zoning Commissioners and with members of the Parish Council.
With a gesture meant to sway the Commissioners, the developer’s attorney offered to champion a public assembly to dispel the community’s misgivings regarding Honeybee. He expressed confidence that he could successfully assuage concerned residents and expound on the advantages of a Honeybee Development for the area. A meeting between the developer’s representatives and the community was arranged for November 16 at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers.
Impacted citizens must continue voicing their opposition during these public assemblies. It’s equally important that we convey our concerns both verbally and in writing to the commissioners and ultimately to the members of the parish council.
ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY WHO OPPOSE THE HONEYBEE DEVELOPMENT SHOULD ATTEND THE PUBLIC MEETING ON THE 16TH OF NOVEMBER.
